Short & Sweet Winter Retreat Alicante

So far, this has been a pretty crazy year for all of us. Wouldn’t it be great to end this year in a way that helps you prepare for the next?

From 26 to 30 November our short and sweet Winter Yoga Retreat will take place.

Winter is the time for introspection

We’ll create a safe space, surrounded by nature, animals and like minded souls, where you can check in with yourself and have some quality me-time. This retreat is aimed at unwinding and preparing ourselves for Winter season. While fall is the time to get your affairs in order, winter is the time for introspection. We’ll do this from a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective. That means that the yoga sessions, meals, massages and all other activities during this retreat are designed in such a way that your body and mind will receive all the nourishment it needs during the most ‘yin’ part of the year

You can compare it to a winter sleep

But what does that actually mean? It means your body and mind are in their most passive and calm state. Whereas in summer you almost naturally feel the urge to go out and have lots of fun during those long and hot days, in winter time your body and mind crave rest, stillness, gentle exercise and proper foods to restore and unwind. You can compare it to a winter sleep. That means that while you chill during the shorter and colder winter days, your body is super busy with planting the seeds that will blossom in spring!

The water element

According to TCM, winter is symbolized by the Water element. Water is flowing and purifying; Water is the ultimate source of life. Think of a baby growing for the first 9 months in – you guessed it – water. These qualities of Water are reflected in the organs related to the Water element: your Kidneys and Urinary Bladder. Together they are responsible for the flow of Body Fluids, and the Kidneys more in particular for the purification of Blood and production of hormones. These organs deserve some extra love and warmth during winter.

We can give them that extra love in the following ways:

  • Doing yoga that target the meridians (energy pathways) of the Urinary Bladder and Kidneys. Especially Yin Yoga is a great way to do this, also because this is a very gentle and even meditative form of exercise;
  • Eat warming and nutritious foods. During winter season, nature provides us with a bunch of delicious and foods and herbs that your body need during this time of the year. Think of pumpkin, kale, cinnamon and ginger.
  • Get yourself a Shiatsu massage. Shiatsu massage uses deep pressure, stretching and other relaxing techniques that restore your energy balance and reduce stress levels.

These are some of the things that we incorporated in the Winter Retreat. Of course you’ll also get a lot of free time, to work even more on that rest and introspective part. That however doesn’t mean there’s no time for fun and adventure. Think of hikes through nature, a movie night and a gathering around the bonfire with glühwein at night. Something with yin and yang, right? 😉

Corona virus

As long as there is no lockdown, this retreat will happen. So even if your government gives a negative travel advise for Spain, we won’t cancel the retreat. It’s an advise not a prohibition, and we are confident that we can still offer a safe, relaxing retreat. If you do decide to cancel your reservation, we appeal to our cancelation policy.

In case of a lockdown, or entry ban we understand you cannot come to the retreat. In this case we want to propose three options:

  • You cancel your reservation according to our cancelation policy
  • You move your reservation to a retreat next year
  • You can use the amount you’ve already paid us as a voucher for a ‘regular’ holiday in 2021
